Vinogradov Alexander & Dubossarsky Vladimir Art duet
1994 — 2014
About
Vinogradov & Dubossarsky art duet included in the list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (ARTEEX). Vinogradov & Dubossarsky. The unbearable joy of being (The lightness of being). The greatest provocation in the Russian contemporary art. In the beginning of 90-s a painting in the style of social realism was perceived by Moscow contemporary art as an obvious relic of the past. But it was the painting, which was suggested by an art duet Vinogradov –Dubossarsky as an example of contemporary art. Nowadays the duet’s works are situated in collections of the biggest museums of the world. The use of traditional forms for art distinguishes the works of the art duo Vinogradov –Dubossarsky. Their works are on the edge of kitsch conceptualism, the paintings are in large format, which at first sight seem to be continuation of traditions of Soviet Realism, but at the same time, they possess a conceptual message. "From the very beginning the project was intended to be limited by certain frameworks. On the one hand, it is a Russian national project, in the core of which there is the language of the Russian Art. On the other hand- there are western strategies. We have taken the language of realism, which is understandable for everyone. We opposed us to conceptualism, which used to be actual (when we only started in 1994), where everything was very smart. In conceptualism, the subtext was more important than the text. In our art, it is different – the context is not important, it is more important to understand the text at once. Opposed to radicalism, out art can also be aggressive, but it is aggressive inside the painting… Inside there are sort of positive values (paradise women, fruit, flowers, animals), they are kind. But aggressiveness of the paintings was in their sizes – and there were many of them. » (V.Dubossarsky). The project (as well as the duet) Vinogradov –Dubossarsky was over in 2014. Both artists have had their own artistic careers since that time. The Old project is over; it is time to start new ones. Photo: Triumph Gallery
