About

Ekaterina Belyavskaya included in the list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (ARTEEX). Ekaterina Belyavskaya is a Moscow artist, curator of exhibitions and lecturer, organizer of charity projects. Her paintings are filled with syncretism and metaphorical imagery. The artistic language of the paintings by Belyavskaya is distinguished by bright colors, bold and, sometimes, extravagant scenes, which makes her works memorable and recognizable. Behind the bright outer shell of Catherine’s art projects there are mythological, literary and historical contexts. The project “13 orchids for the Empress”, which tells about the life of Chinese Empress Cixi, is marked by special symbolism. The beautiful appearance of the young girl hides the greedy and cruel temper, symbolic embodiment of which is the image of the Dragon. The will to power, enrichment and sexual liberation is the leitmotif in the colorful images of the Empress and her concubines. Michel Foucault indicated the hidden interconnection of such phenomena as power and sexuality, and Belyavskaya, using colorful artistic language, transformed this invisible alliance into her canvases. Another project by Belyavskaya - “Check, mate and you” is full of extraordinary theatricality and dynamism of the plot. Chess is one of the oldest forms of human activity. As Johan Huizinga noted, game is more ancient than culture, and Man the Player. The game of colors, intelligence and human passions unfolds on the canvases of Catherine. Ekaterina Belyavskaya was born in Moscow in 1981. She studied in 1997-1999 at the Moscow State University of Press, Moscow. She graduated in 2002 from Central Saint Martin College of Art of Design, London. In 2007 she was the Finalist of the Kandinsky Prize contest in the Young Artist nomination, Moscow. In 2005 there was her personal exhibition at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, since 2007 she has constantly participated in exhibitions of the Fine Art Gallery. Collections: Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture, Paris, France; The Berlin Wall Museum Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin, Germany. Private collections
